“At the heart of it, Sa Wakas’ triumph is in its relatability. Hearing the audience react audibly to several scenes is testament to their emotional investment.” – Adrienne Gopoco, theaterfansmanila.com
Want a unique and intimate theater experience in Manila? Look no further than the various productions in Circuit Makati’s Power Mac Center Spotlight. Since its opening in 2015, many small theater productions have set up shop in the black box theater, one designed to deliver fresh and innovative performances for a wide range of audiences. And the most successful and critically-lauded of the lot is Sa Wakas, A Pinoy Rock Musical. Yes, folks, this one draws quite the crowd and most of the shows are sold-out, making theater critics to be dub it “the must-see musical of the year”.
Now on its farewell run, Sa Wakas is a musical based on the songs of rock band Sugarfree. It tells the story of two millennials, Toper and Lexi, who are navigating the rough roads of love and the pains of being a young adult–and the conceit here, folks, is the entire story is told in reverse! Indeed, quite a unique theater experience, as we’ve said.
And as the glowing reviews have stated, the performances are gripping and there’s much to be enjoyed about top-notch numbers such as “Burnout”, “Tulog Na”, and “Ang Pinakamagaling na Tao sa Balat ng Lupa”.
